POSITION SUMMARY

This is a continuing developmental position for a mechanical engineer with responsibility for designing and supporting products.  This person would make individual mechanical engineering contributions on specific assignments and perform work which requires application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related engineering tasks.  He or she would perform the assignments that typically are designed to further develop mechanical engineering skills, knowledge, and abilities.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

l        May indirectly lead one to two engineering support personnel.

l        Works closely with other mechanical engineers and works with multi-disciplinary team members to meet the goals of the assignment.

l        Participates in relationships with other organizations throughout the company, with outside suppliers, and with customers.

l        Influences the direction of the project team in areas of mechanical engineering relating to the assignment.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

l        Takes responsibility for mechanical engineering assignments with general guidance from more experienced engineers.

l        Responsibilities include mechanical engineering aspects of assigned areas.  Supervisor screens assignments for unusual or difficult problems and may select techniques and procedures.

l        Assignments could involve teams with all engineering disciplines including electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and software engineering.

l        Serves as a resource on specific topics.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTION

l        Participate in reviewing functional specs and cost targets.

l        Participate in translating functional specifications into mechanical design requirements.

l        Plan individual work.

l        Develop design solutions and participate in preparing design concepts.

l        Create detailed designs; analyze designs, test prototypes, and document completed designs.

l        Further develop problem solving techniques to determine root causes for problems, propose solutions, and validate the solutions.

l        Report status on assignments.

l        Meet the objectives for specific assignments including performance, schedule, and cost.

l        Participate in preparing specifications for purchased hardware and evaluate the purchased hardware to the specification.

l        Communicate designs in a form that serves the needs of downstream users and reduces the need for non-value added work.

l        Learn and use best practices including brainstorming, reviews, analysis, and testing to assure the success of assigned projects.

l        Use hands-on approach for building and evaluating prototypes.

l        Work effectively as a member of a team.

l        Effectively apply engineering theory to specific assignments.

l        Constantly improve personal effectiveness by learning and applying best practices.

l        Maintain and increase skills in the face of rapidly evolving technology.

l        Use approved processes and procedures to assure the consistent quality of the development process.

l        Use mechanical CAD software (Pro/Engineer) and business productivity tools including personal computers and all relevant software.

l        Other duties as required for the success of the company.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

l        Travel to work with manufacturing sites, suppliers, and customers.

l        Ensure work is done according to established ISO procedures.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

l        Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

l        Additional professional education is preferred.

l        Creativity, initiative, analytical skills, attention to detail, problem solving skills, teamwork skills and organizational skills.

l        Success is progressively more difficult assignments involving mechanical engineering contributions and team participation including at least one year at the Mechanical Engineer I level.

l        Strong English & Mandarin communication skills
